Garden Temple. c.1775. By W. Everard. Brick with stone
dressings. C20 hipped roof. South east facade has
entablature with fluted frieze and rosettes. Tetrastyle
Tuscan portico; frieze has inscription: "HIC VER ASSIDUUM
ATQUE ALIENIS MENSIBUS AESTAS" (here are perpetual spring
and summer in unexpected months). Classical mask in
pediment. Flanking square recesses with architraves
(boarded, 1985) with round recesses above. Behind portico,
3-bay pilastrade; central entrance with classical relief
over and flanking niches. Interior has canted angles,
originally stuccoed, now bare brick, stucco fragments are
stored. Venetian and flanking round-headed recesses, niches
in angles. Classical altars now boarded over (1985). Built
for Henry Blundell's collection of antiquities.
