1899, a full blooded example of the Birmingham terracotta school. Nave with
clerestory and low aisles, transepts and Sunday School attached to rear.
All built of hard red brick with lavish buff terracotta ornament and dressings
in a style combining Romanesque with Perpendicular details. North entrance
front has broad shaped gable with flanking turret/buttresses capped by terracotta
finialed openwork cupolas. Above the porch are a pair of large richly decorated
Romanesque windows but with quatrefoil tracery. Well modelled angel in high
relief embracing central spandrel whilst the gable above has terracotta banding
and a narrow central arch motife with cresting to apex of gable. The projecting
porch has a terracotta Romanesque portal, flanked by Perpendicular cupola-capped
buttresses which rise to contain quatrefoil compartmented gable bisected on
the vertical, from the keystone of the arch through the apex, by a large ogee
finialed pinnacle. The side elevations including the gable ended school have
similar terracotta decoration, finials and buttress/turrets.
