1893 by Martin and Chamberlain, a small but richly designed Gothic style
library on corner site with Icknield Street. Bright red brick with the
partnership's typical wealth of simply modelled terracotta dressings and
decoration. Prominent corner clock tower over entrance with pinnacle clasped
spire. Steep gable end tiled roof with cresting tiles. Finialed gabled
window bays with lofty paired lancets containing ogee arched and pointed
lights with decorative terracotta panels between floors. Triple group
with taller gabled centre light, under pyramid roof to west end of south
front. Interior galleried with balconies. Supported by marble columns.
Pointed barrel vault over open 2 storey space.
