Tilton Girls' School
SP 08 NE 7/82
Circa 1890. Brick with restrained terracotta and cut brick dressings;
tile roof. Main range of hall with 3 linked gabled crossways to the front.
Large pointed arched windows with dripstones. On the left, the tower,
a buttressed octagon its faces clasped by ornate terracotta shafted pinnacles.
Ornate cornice supporting slender tiled spire with banded metal-faced oculi.
Crown of goblets and miniature gabled pinnacle. At the right-hand end
a ribbed chimney stack as vertical balancing feature. In front of the
tower a 2-storeyed wing with principal and subsidiary gables to the yard
and one gabled semi-dormer to the road. Restrained asymmetry of fenestration.
