Church of England primary school, Circa 1860. Unified composition with St James's
church and parsonage by G Bidlake. Gothic revival style in C13 mode. Blue
engineering brick, stone details. Tiled roof of contrasting bands,ornamental metal
ridge cresting. Single storey. Assymetrical front: 2 projecting wings with stone
coped gables and kneelers linked by range of four bays, each with a two light and
quatrefoil headed window set in a coped gable with moulded kneelers, a low entry
porch in angle of range and R.H wing and on entry through the bell tower in angle
between range and L.H wing. L.H gable continues left as short range with one
similar 2 light window set in gablet. The gable wall of each wing has a stepped
3 light window with a low transom and stopped hood mould over. A stone quatrefoil
light in apex of each gable Bell tower with open arched stone bell cage and tiled
spirelet. Forecourt with stone and brick gate piers, iron gates and railings.
