Turnpike toll house. c1820. Painted brick with overhanging hipped slate
roof. Two storeys. South facade, facing road, altered. On the ground
floor there is a late C20 shop front and door. On the first floor is a
late C20 window within an earlier opening. The left-hand return wall is
of two bays, the left-hand bay angled back. The windows have flat brick
hoods, Tudor arches, and Gothick glazing. The door, to the left of the
right-hand window, has a Tudor-arch and is ribbed with Gothick tracery at
the head. Chimney on ridge.
