7/101 Nos 1 and 2

Mirrored pair of houses. Early 1850s. Built by Henry Farrington. Brick
with painted stone and stucco dressings and hipped slate roof with over-
hanging bracketed eaves. Two storeys. Each house is of two bays with a
third outer bay set back. On the ground floor are timber canted bay windows.
The first floor windows are 8-pane sashes with architraves, sill bands, and
cornices on console brackets. The doors, in the middle bay of each house,
have surrounds with round heads under Ionic porches with pilaster responds.
Chimneys between houses to front and rear of the ridge, and in line with
outer bays set back from the ridge. Originally known as Hatherton Lake
Villas. Included as a complete example forming part of a planned develop-
ment. (VCH, Staffordshire, Vol 7, p 152).
