The Dairy immediately
8/72 North East of Dairy
Estate dairy. Circa 1840-42 and probably contemporary with the 1840-42 remodel-
ling by Edward Blore of Shadwell Court qv. Plastered clay lump on flint and brick
plinth (most of the plaster has been broken off). Thatched roof hipped at front
with small gablet and gabled at rear.
Plan: T-shaped on plan with front room in stem of the T surrounded by rustic
colonnade, and behind there are 2 smaller rooms in the bar of the T. The left
hand rear room has a later stack on the back wall. There is a doorway at the
front giving direct entry into the front room; a doorway at the back and a doorway
into the side of the rear left hand room.
Cottage ornee style.
Exterior: 1 storey Symmetrical front. The deep eaves of the thatched roof are
supported on rustic tree trunks forming a verandah at the front and sides; the
verandah at the front has collapsed. Central arched doorway with plank door and
wrought-iron hinges flanked by single-light windows with cast iron diamond pane
casements. Large wooden casements at rear; a plank door between and a tall brick
stack to the right.
Interior: Not inspected but is said to have "original range of slate bedded work
