4/6 The Grove.


Farmhouse. Late C16 with C18 remodelling and additions. Double pile. Brick,
partly colourwashed and partly pebbledashed. Black-glazed pantile roofs,
hipped and gabled. Main facade to south of six bays, two centre bays recessed.
Hipped roofs behind eaves parapets over end bays. Two storeys with part-
attics. Central doorway with side-lights, fluted pilasters and decorative
fanlight, now reset in later flat-roofed porch. Sash windows with glazing
bars. Two sets of glazed doors on east facade, one with side lights and fluted
pilasters supporting canopy. Earlier range on north side has casements, some
with leaded glazing. Three-light casement with hood mould at first floor
level. Central chimney stack with clustered octagonal brick shafts. Parapetted
gable to west. Lower two-storey double-gabled extension to north with one
gable stack. Red brick stack with moulded cap on east side. Wooden moulded
eaves cornice. Interior: moulded C16 door frame in Dining room. C16 side-
purlin roof over earlier range and wings.
