The Oaks.
GV II
Farmhouse of C17, added to and altered in the C18 and late C19. Built of
red brick, gault brick and slate. 'L' shaped plan of 2 storeys with rear
2 storey lean-to. Late C19 terraced street facade of 3 windows with off centre
door. Sash windows with glazing bars and plain splayed stone lintels, and
shutters at ground floor. Wrought iron plant boxes at first floor. Oak
panelled entrance door with panelled reveals, 4 centred, double revealed stone
lintel with key block. C20 dormers. Axial stacks at either end. Rear eleva-
tion 4 windows, sash with glazing bars at first floor and below 3 full height
casement windows with meeting stiles, glazing bars and transom with gauged
brick arches. Off centre 6 panel part glazed door with timber door case with
fluted pilasters and projecting broken pediment. Service wing to the south
with casement windows and timber 'Diocletian' windows with brick arches on
both floors. 3 internal stacks and south axial stack adjacent to roof hip.
Range to street with chamfered and ogee and bar stops. Opposed butt purlins
and wind braces. Late C19 curved staircase with moulded handrail and square
balusters. Good cast iron semi-circular grates. Door spandrel in kitchen
dated 1670.
