Listing Text

The Greyhound brick


Former public house, C17, but much altered. Built of red brick and rough
cast brickwork with pantiled roof. 'L'-shaped plan of 2 storeys. Facade,
3 windows. Double sash window and casement window, with glazing bars and
segmental brick arches at ground floor. Panelled door with pentice board
on timber brackets. Brick dentil eaves and parapet gables with right hand
chimney. Brick arch, to the left, over the entrance to Bar Lane, with segmen-
tal arch and battlemented parapet. At the rear, scattered fenestration of
casement windows with glazing bars at the rear. Large brick fireplace with
oak bressemer. Chamfered beam with ogee stops and butt purlin roof. The
rear range has heavy beams and closely spaced floor joists. Late C19 public
house partitions, screens, doorways and details remain intact. Included for
group value.
