Manor House, late C17, of galleted flint with brick dressings and plain tile and
pantile roof. 2 storeys and attics with C19 rear 2 storey lean-to. Facade of
6 irregular bays with a central brick porch. C19 storey height casements, at ground
floor level in original paired openings, with gauged brick arches and moulded brick
string course above. C19 casement with moulded frame and transom inserted to the
left. At first floor, oak casement windows with transoms, some original wrought
iron lights with glass quarrys. Brick niches with semi-circular heads and heraldry
at each end. Late C17, 2 storey brick porch with first floor casement window with
transom and wrought iron light and glass quarrys, flanked by brick pilasters. Below
an inserted C19 door and gauged brick arch. Fragments of moulded brick string course
at first floor level. Timber modillion eaves to porch flat roof and to main roof.
2 blocked windows behind the porch, at first floor level. South wall with C19
casements with segmental brick arches. Stepped grable with moulded brick kneelers,
string course at attic floor level and 3 niches with heraldry. North stepped gable
with external polygonal chimney with re-built top, and brick corbel heads. Below at
ground floor level, an inserted mediaeval 2 light stone window with a hood mould. At
the rear, casement windows with wrought iron lights, some possibly re-used originals.
Off centre axial stack. Open brick fireplaces with splayed recesses and plain timber
bressumers. Fine C17 boarded doors. Moulded door frame with elaborate stops in the
hall. Winding oak and brick stair to attic. C17 roll moulded principal beams above
the inserted C19 Jacobean style staircase. Opposed butt purlin roof. Octagonal
paments in the hall. Ribbed timber ceiling in dining room pine panelling in living
room annex. Some C17 balustrading on the landing. (W. L. E. Parsons Salle).
