5/24 The Olde Thatche Shoppe

Manorial house then 2 cottages, now shop and single dwelling. C15. Much
altered. Timber framed with mixture of rendered lath and plaster, clay lump
and brick on brick and flint plinth. Thatched roof. Probably open hall plan.
2 storeys. Shop entrance to right with late C20 door between bow windows.
2 casements on ground floor and 4 under eaves of early 1980's in original
openings. Gabled roof with ridge stack left of centre above blocked door.
Pantiled gabled outshut to right. South gable head weatherboarded. Rear has
full length flat-topped late C20 extension to ground floor. First floor windows
renewed as front. C19 4-light vertically mullioned window to right replaces
C17 insertion. Interior retains much of timber frame. Sitting room and Dining
room reconstructed in late C16. Wall studs, wall plates and ceiling beams,
the latter with tongue stops. Sitting room fireplace partly rebuilt in C20
retaining some original brickwork and bressummer inscribed 1580 --- E.R. --
- $.L. Roof with tie beams on arched braces. Thin Queen posts and collars.
Single purlin clasped between collar and principals at rear and under collar
at front. Winder staircase behind stack.
