Parish church. Medieval and later. North aisle rebuilt in 1913. Flint
with ashlar and brick dressings. Plaintiled roofs. West tower, nave
with south porch and chancel. North aisle to nave and chancel. C14 west
tower with diagonal buttresses. Moulded west doorway with a 4-centred
arch and a very fine C14 carved Crucifixion scene above beneath a nodding
ogee arch within a rectangular frame decorated with vine leaf scroll and
a moulded hood mould with deeply undercut carving. Kneeling female figure
at foot of cross. Pair of flanking figures in miniature niches. 2-light
Y-traceried window above. 2-light traceried bell-opeings with mouchettes.
Nave with 2 restored 3-light Perpendicular windows to south. 2 restored
3-light Perpendicular chancel windows with embattled transoms. 5-light
east window in similar style. Re-set C14 north aisle east window of 3
lights with spherical triangle flanked by mouchettes. Other north aisle
windows of 1913. 4 north clearstorey windows of c.1500 in brick of 2 lights
with cusping. North arcade of c.1500. 7 bays with single order of hollow
chamfered arches continued onto narrow lozenge shaped piers. Piers with
moulded imposts and rose and ball flower decoration below. Tower arch
of 3 chamfered orders. No chancel arch. Cusped chancel piscina with
spandrels. Modern king post roof with arched braces and traceried wall
plate. Octagonal font with plain bowl and arcaded stem. Several C15
and C16 brasses to Yelverton family. Fragments of medieval stained glass
in easternmost south window.
