GATELEY
Pair of lodges including gates and piers to Sennowe Park

GV II

Pair of lodges, gates and piers to Sennowe Park. 1905-8 by G. Skipper.
Brick with ashlar dressings; some timber framing with tile hanging. Slate roofs. Pair of nearly identical lodges in Baroque style flanking drive and connected by main gates (with overthrow) and pedestrian gates. 2 and 3 storeys with taller central blocks which have towers attached (one to each lodge) flanking drive with copper covered cupolas supported on open Tuscan colonnades forming octagons. 2 storeyed canted bays to front and driveside facades with stone mullion and transom windows with leaded lights. Central blocks with parapets, with curved crenellations, animal finials and heraldry. Elaborate lead rainwater pipes and hoppers. Lower parts project to outside and rear and have steeply pitched roofs. Rear wings with jettied timber framed tile hung upper floors. 3 chimney stacks to each lodge.
Square-sectioned ashlar gate piers with coved niches and cartouches above bearing shields. Dentil cornices with heraldic beasts above on gadrooned mounts. Flanked by 2 pairs of semicircular headed pedestrian entrances with elaborate ironwork gates. Equally elaborate main gates with scrolled overthrow.
