Description

GARVESTONE REYMERSTON
TG 00 NW
6/28 Reymerston Old Hall
Farmhouse (formerly
4.12.51 listed as Old Hall,
Reymerston).
- II*

Farmhouse. 1620 on date plaque which might refer to the brick facing and
the addition of stacks. Otherwise the main block is late Medieval with a
C17 roof and C17 extensions. Timber frame with limewashed brick facing to
front of main block and side addition with a returned brick gable end. Plain
tile roofs. L plan formed by a lower side addition. Main block of 2 storeys
with attic. Brick north facade either facing or replacing timber frame.
Roughly symmetrical with a single storey gabled porch which retains a double-
ovolo moulded door frame and door with moulded cover strips and some con-
temporary ironwork. Kneeler and peak finials to gable and C18 straight hoods
on brackets to doorway and tympanum grotesque. Family crest on peak finial.
Massive external stacks to either side of porch with octagonal shafts. 3
small windows with glazing bars to ground floor and 3 tall C18 2-light
mullion and transom windows (one blind) to first floor with metal casements,
some surviving leaded glazing and straight hoods on brackets. Similar hood
to centrally placed date plaque. To side and rear 2 C18 3-light mullion
and transom windows with metal casements to ground floor, one leaded 2-light
gable window and 2 C19 2-light mullion and transom windows to first floor.
Some surviving C19 moulded wooden rectangular hood moulds. Side addition
probably contemporary with main block refacing. Returned brick north gable
with external stack and 2 octagonal shafts substantially rebuilt in Flemish
bond. 2 3-light windows with metal casements to west and modern doors.
Later lean-to with catslide roof.
