TL 89 SW LYNFORD
8/28 Courtyards including
3:11:75 railings to Lynford
Courtyards and railings. Circa 1862 designed by W. Burns. Brick with stone
dressings. Slate roofs. Cast iron railings. 2 interconnected courtyards
to north side of hall. Inner courtyard with blind arcading to north and
east ranges and a central slightly advanced coachway to north. Semicircular,
stone dressed arches with occasional raised voussoirs. Clock tower in
north-east corner with leaded cupola. North range roofless. West side
consists of a highly elaborate cast iron screen (by Turner of London) in
Rococo style with a 2-leaf central gateway (one leaf missing) beneath a
3-centred overthrow. Outer courtyard surrounded by former coach house,
stables and living accommodation. Similar to inner courtyard with an axially
positioned gabled coachway. East range of one and a half storeys and 5 sash
windows with glazing bars beneath skewback arches. One renewed central
entrance. 4 steeply gabled dormer windows of 2-light casements with glazing
bars. North range east side with arcade partially blocked and converted
into 'motel' accommodation. Garages to west range and north range west side.
