25 metres north east of
Church of St. Mary.
2 leaf lych gates, gate piers and abutments, entrance to the church of St.
Mary. Dated 1852. Coursed, squared carstone with stone dressings, wooden
and cast iron gates. High Victorian Gothic 2 piers with single set off and
gabled coping, with on north south side of north pier an inscription set
within a stone arch : "These gates were erected/By the Reverend the Vicar
W.B. Estcourt/And his parishioners/To remind the living/And in memory of
the dead/During V months AD MDCCCLII/Out of/CL sick/XX Persons died of typhus
fever/'He doth not afflict willingly/Nor grieve the children of men'
Lam(entations) III, 33 (xxxiii)". 2 leaf gates with X frame stretchers and
metal dog rails with spear heads. Included for historical interest.
