Cottage. Mid-to-late C18. Built as a tea-room and organ room with pleasure
grounds for Catherine Styleman (1724-1793) who married in 1752 Nicholas Style-
man (1721-1788) of Snettisham Old Hall. Coursed, squared carstone, some rubble
faced blocks standing proud of wall-line, perhaps as part of dovecote role.
Black and smut pantiled roof. Single storey with attic inserted in roof,
pentagonal on plan having hipped roof with attic inserted. Gothick. Each
face has an opening, mostly somewhat altered. At north-east 4 panel part
glazed door with switch tracery Gothic-arched head under ogee surround with
cross at head. At east inserted 2-light plate glass casement with earlier
switch tracery Gothic arched head. At south-east 2-light casement with glazing
bars and switch tracery head. At south-west C20 lean-to porch screening
boarded door with switch tracery head. At west 2-light casement with glazing
bars, arched without switch tracery. At north-west window casement with plate
window inserted, surviving switch tracery head. Eaves string-course,
rectangular openings for dovecote form cornice. Hipped roof with inserted
C20 dormers and central brick stack, rebuilt C20. See Robert W. Harding,
