TF 83 NW STANHOE BIRCHAM ROAD (east)

4/44 Ivy Farm Barn.

II

Barn. Mid C18. English bond red brick, red pantiled roofs. 2 3-bay threshing
barns built end to end with projecting outshut to east and west. East side
has central C18 brickoutshut, 2 flanking cart entrances between pilaster
strips, outer bays with 2 ground and 2 first floor honeycomb brick ventilation
openings under segmental brick arches. Details at north east obscured by
C20 lean-to additions. Facades articulated with ground floor plinth, first
floor platband and 4 courses of moulded brick eaves cornice. North and south
gables have 2 ground, 2 first floor and one attic honeycomb brick arched
ventilation windows. Ground floor plinth first floor and gable platbands,
brick tumbling and brick coped parapet. North gable has blank apex opening.
South gable has stone datestone with initials. West side has similar details
to east, with central outshut extended. Multi-bay butt purlin roof with tie
beams supported on wall posts with struts, arched wind bracing, upper collars.
Architectural details identified with Robert Glover, also responsible for
Barmer Farm barn, Bagthorpe with Barmer, and Barwick House and outbuildings,
Barwick (q.q.v.).
