Three cottages. C18. Whitewashed brick, black glazed pantiles. 2 storeys, 5 windows with slightly recessed north bay. No. 1 and 2 to south have 3 ground floor arched headed and 4 first floor straight headed wooden 2-light casements with glazing bars. Inserted C20 glazed door in place of ground floor windows to No. 2. No. 3 to north has single ground floor arched headed and single first floor straight headed wooden 2-light casement with glazing bars. Dentil eaves cornice, hipped roof with central and north end ridge stacks. Boarded doors to No. 1 and No. 3 on returns.
Foundations of first two houses in New Houghton laid July 1729 replacing village in park. Inspired Goldsmith's Deserted Village (1770). Appears as block plan in Isaac Ware Plans ... Houghton (1735) 1750 ed.
