6/8 Wheelwright's Oven
at TF 7428 1678
Wheelwright's Oven, mid C19. Gault brick; barrel roof of gault brick.
Rectangular building c.2.8 x 1.5 x 2.2m high; walls c.0.5m thick, English
bond with central shallow buttress either side; walls bound by iron hoops.
Central squat chimney. Entrance to north with double stable doors of iron.
Narrow interior c.0.6m wide. The oven could hold six iron tyres and was
in use until c.1940. A circular wheel plate in iron is set into the ground
c.3m to west. Included as an example of a C19 rural industrial building.
