Parish church. Medieval. Flint and ironbound conglomerate with brick and
stone dressings. Tile, red pantile and smut pantile roofs. West tower, nave,
south porch, chancel. Embattled C13 round tower with doorway to south having
continuous chamfer. Some conglomerate to lower parts of tower. Slit light
with triangular head to south. Y-traceried bell openings. Brick battlements.
Nave of 4 bays with post-medieval brick buttresses. Conglomerate quoins to
north west and south west corners. C14 Decorated window of 2 lights to left
of south porch. 2 3-light square headed windows with panel tracery; some brick
to mullions; hood moulds. C15 brick rood stair with knapped flint diapering;
small 2-light moulded brick window, the lights with round heads. To north a
doorway with continuous chamfer moulding. One square-headed window similar
to those to south. Blocked archway perhaps to former chapel with small 2-light
square headed window above. Unbuttressed chancel, part rendered to south, with
2 2-light Decorated windows. North chancel doorway with continuous hollow
chamfer moulding; hood mould. C19 east wall with C19 3-light Decorated window.
Buttressed south porch with Y-tracery lights to east and west, now blocked.
Square knapped flint to south. Archway with polygonal shafts, undercut
capitals; 4 orders to arch with one deep hollow; hood mould with ogee head
returning to enclose 2 trefoils and topped by finial. Chamfered nave doorway;
ogee hood mould with finial and decorated stops. Interior. Ogee-headed hood
mould to north door with finial. Small light to base of tower. C17 nave roof
of 3 bays with tie beams and 2 rows of butt purlins. Rere-arch to C14 south
nave window with slim shafts, moulded arch and hood mould. South chancel rere-
arches similar, one having foliated capitals and one polygonal capitals.
Double piscina with cusped ogee arches; 4 clustered shafts to centre. Remains
of sedilia. Chancel roof of 1898. Rood screen. C17 pulpit from North
Barningham church. C15 octagonal font with cusped panels to base and shields
to bowl.
