Phillipo's Farm Barn.

Farm barn. Dated 1818, JEP for J.E. Phillipo builder. Flint with brick
dressings, roof replaced with asbestos sheets. 3-stead barn with central
cart entrance and C20 lean-to at east. 2 ventilation slits, gables with
inscribed stone finials at south "game law theology" on upright, "Bigotry"
on plinth with "who can believe it blest with common sense that taking game
in Lent gave god offence/or that untasted pheasants have the charm/th'
Almighty's fierced's pleasure to disarm/In majesty enthroned supreme - divine/
Does he regard on what we chance to dine", 1847 and to north "game law justice"
"Tyranny". "This memorial is erected to transmit to posterity/The fact that
in the middle of the 19th Century/The owner of this estate was committed for
14 days/Imprisonment in a Felon's jail by two clerical/Justices for having
taken and eaten his own game/out of season as decreed by English Statue law".
3 inscribed stones and upright octagonal finial with conical cap, inscriptions
[acing the public road to east. This monumental protest by William Skinner
Phillipo, later of Severals Grange,'Mood Norton, an opponent of tithes, the
game laws and finally a religious free-thinker : see W.S. Phillipo The Game
Laws Considered -and their evils exposed (London and Norwich 1852).
