EAST RUSTON

11-MAY-1987 BARN 35 METRES EAST OF BRISTOWS FARMHOUSE

Barn. Early C18 with minor C20 alterations. Brick, partly rendered in 1983. Thatched roof, 1 and 1/2 storeys. 5 bays.
West side with central full height double doors. 4 symmetrically placed
pilaster buttresses with slit ventilation lights between them. To left a
subsidiary door and between doors a hayloft door under eaves. Gables with
tumbling stand on brick kneelers. Gabled roof.
East side partly rebuilt transept entrance under catslide thatched roof. INTERIOR floored at north end with hay racks beneath and full height brick partition dividing it from main space. Roof of barn is of tie beams supported on wall pieces with straight braces, principals and collars with 2 tiers of butt purlins.
