House. Early C16 origins, additions of C18 later refaced early C19, the whole
extensively altered 1982-83. Brick and flint. Roofs of plain tiles. To
north 2 storey early C16 house of square plan, constructed of brick on brick
plinth. East front mutilated by one door and 2 casements at each floor of
1982, the spaces between windows rebuilt in stock brick. Expanses of early
C16 brickwork remain. Gabled roof carried on moulded brick kneelers. Internal
gable end stack to north now rebuilt. North gable wall has 2 blocked windows
each floor. West side with long horizontal window opening now blocked and
fitted with C20 casement. To south a C18 2 storey extension, refaced to east
facade in early C19. Facade of 2 storeys in 3 bays. Central C20 half glazed
door in timber doorcase under leaded hood. Fenestration of mixed sashes and
casements of differing sizes. Dentil eaves cornice below gabled roof, hipped
to north. Gabled passage links this block with that of C16 at attic level.
Interior much altered. Cellar of C16 block entered through double chamfered
brick arch from interior of C18 wing. Arched candle niches in each wall,
one converted to cupboard. Roll and sunk hollow bridging beam. Kitchen in
lower room. Large fireplace with C18 hob. Winder by stack, now blocked at
ceiling level, though newel post rises to attic.
