The White Cottage
TM 1890 28/1255


Late C14/early C15 "Wealden" house with open hall (not floored) with queen
post roof with arched braces and with 2 storeyed bays at each end.
Plastered timber-frame. Hipped thatched roof. Central hall with large
6-light mullion window, 2 storeys at each end with small 3 and 4-light
mullion windows. All windows replicas of original, one original 4-light
mullion window at rear. Doorway on right of hall to screens passage with
modern oak door and arch.
Interior: the screen has been removed, but there are 2 shouldered arch
doorways in the screens passage to the service room and the room above.
Later lean-to on west end. Large modern one storey flat roofed wing at
rear (north).
