Former manor house. Early C17 thoroughly refurbished in the early C18. Underbuilt
timber frame mainly rendered with some weather-boarding on east wing. Plaintiled
roofs. Symmetrical U plan incorporating barn as east wing. 2 original stair-outshuts
to side and rear and an C18 stair-outshut to rear. 2 storeys with attics. C18
heightened main facade with a panelled central front door with a pedimented doorcase
with quadrant Doric fluted jambs. Interesting bay rhythm (a,b,a,a,b,a,b,a,b,a,a,b,a)
of sash windows (a) with glazing bars. 3 windows blind and painted. Moulded string-
course and coved cornice. C18 brick stair-outshut to rear with an elaborate moulded
and dentiled cornice. Off-centre axial stacks to main and west wings and one external
stack to rear of main wing. One original winding stair from first floor to attic with
a facetted newel. Jowled wall posts, arch-braced ties and collar and butt-purlin
roofs. Part of window bay of timber frame uncovered with ovolo-cum-ogee moulded
reveals. Fine C18 staircase with irontwist balusters and scrolled tread-ends. C18
doors throughout with raised and fielded panels. Very fine coved recess with carved
shell at base of semi-dome, fluted pilasters and elaborate spandrel carving.
