6/88 Wicklewood Hall

2.10.51 II*

Farmhouse. C17. Rendered and underbuilt timber frame re-faced with brick
to ground floor front. Added colour-washed brick cross-wing and 2-storey
porch. 4 (one replaced) early C19 tripartite sash windows with glazing bars
to original wing. 2 C19 4-light mullion and transom casements in original
openings beneath rectangular hood-moulds to cross-wing. One sash window
and 2 blocked oculi beneath rectangular hood-moulds to porch. Steep-pitched
roofs and crow-stepped gables to cross-wing and porch. Off-centre axial
stack with 4 octagonal shafts to original wing. Gable-end stacks with paired
octagonal shafts to cross-wing. Winding stair to side of stack in original
wing. Very elaborate beam stops. Panelled room half C17 and half C18. C17
panelling of oak with a carved lunette and guilloche moulded frieze of except-
ional quality. Some sections with different mouldings obviously re-used.
C18 panelling in softwood with large raised and fielded panels, dado rails,
cornice mouldings and a fine fire surround with a dentiled cornice, fluted
triglyphs with guttae and oval pateral. C20 red brick fireplace.
