9/74 Old Carrier's Arms

GV II

Former public house. Early C17 and later. Rendered timber frame with brick
faced south gable-end and thatched roof. Through passage plan with single
cell to either side. 2 storeys with attic. 4-window facade with 2 C18 3-
light windows with metal casements and transom to ground floor window. 2
later 2-light casements with glazing bars. Raised and fielded panelled front
door. Original gable-end stack to north, later stack to south gable-end.
Lean-to extensions to rear. High quality frame with fine clasped purlin
roof with wind bracing. Original winding stair beside stack. Original
planked doors with fine example upstairs with moulded edge strips and cover
strip and grasp handle latch. Stepped and nicked chamfer stops.
