6/99 The Stables and out-
houses to The Hall


Stables, cart shed and outhouse. From 1784 by Sir John Soane. Gault brick
with pantiled roofs. 4 ranges around a square courtyard. Open cart shed
to north, stables to east and west and outhouse to south. Each range
except north of 2 storeys and 5 bays with, at ground floor only, pivot
windows resembling sashes with glazing bars and much bottle glass beneath
skewback arches. South range windows within containing arches. Alternating
blind and shuttered first floor openings with wavy ventilation slits in
shutters. External faces of east and west ranges with blind arcading and
honeycomb vents. Dentil cornices and hipped roofs. Original stalls and
fittings in stables.
