Grove farmhouse formerly Creasey's Grove farmhouse

Former farmhouse subsequently subdivided now single. C16 with a C17 side
addition and a major C18 refurbishment. Rendered timber frame replaced
with brick to rear and one returned brick gable-end. Pantiled roofs.
2 storeys and one attic room in C17 addition. Fenestration mainly C18
of 2-lights with metal casements and leaded glazing. 2 large C20 metal
windows in C17 part. 2 hooded doorways with elaborate C17 brackets to
eastern doorway consisting of a lion to left and a unicorn to right, rampant,
each holding an oval medallion surrounded by strapwork and supported by
crouching Atlas figures with long moustaches and hoofs. Original house
heightened in C18 to correspond to taller C17 addition. Off-centre axial
stack to original house. Gable-end of addition with a blocked 2-light ovolo-
moulded inserted stone stair window with former pediment. 2 blocked attic
windows and a pair of diagonally set chimney shafts. Moulded brick
inscription: "VERITAS ODIUM PARIT". C18 brickwork to rear with skewback
arches with cambered soffits. Later accretions to side and rear. Original
house with many C18 details such as L hinges, original planked doors with
applied frames and a fine staircase beside stack with attenuated vase
type balusters with square knops and swept handrails. Original arch-braced
ties visible yet C18 roof replaced in C20. C17 addition with a fine 4-
centred ashlar fireplace, ogee and ovolo moulded and with a fluted rim.
Angle rolls to bridging joists and ovolo and hollow chamfered mouldings
to later joists. Original winding stair beside stack and clasped purlin
roof.
