1/1 Avenue Farm Cottages

Pair of cottages, formerly one house. 19th century red brick facing of
earlier timber frame with brick return gables 18th century. Reed thatched
roof. Wing to west pantiled. 1½ storeys, L-shaped plan. Range of four
widely spaced windows: 19th century and 20th century casements. Ground
floor openings with segmental heads. Four dormers on east side. Two
entrance doors, one with 20th century porch. Parapeted gables with brick
tumbling-in. Internal chimney stack at north gable. Off-centre axial stack.
Later pantiled wing at north west corner with large external stack on north
wall. 20th century casements in gable. Arch-braced tie beams to north
and south of axial stack carrying square unmoulded crown posts and collar-
purlin. Butt-purlin roof with closely-set principal rafters. First floor
tie beams and joists with stepped run-out stops. One tie beam with barred
chamfer-stops.
