5/54 No 33, Beech Cottage


Cottage, C16 renewed C17; colourwashed brick, pantiles. 3 cells, single storey
and attic. Timber frame walls replaced by brick C17, walls battered, floor
inserted C17. Facade to east: off-centre axial stack to right; varied renewed,
blocked and inserted fenestration. 2 raking roof dormers. South return to
left in tar-washed brick, inserted opening to attic and to ground floor; return
to north to right with plinth, 3 and 2-light casements. Rear to west with
forward addition to right; 2 C20 3-light casements, 1 raking dormer. Interior:
large inserted stack in later brick; fireplace to central cell with ΒΌ mouldings
to bressumer and bridging beam, additional stack added in north cell. Many
ceiling timbers renewed but some lamb's tongue stops. Attic with thin gable
walls above tie beams; 5 bay roof with 14cm tenoned butt purlins and principal
rafters; interior ties removed but c.50cm of tie protruding either side to
north bay.
