TG 10 SE KETTERINGHAM

5/77 Avon Cottage

Cottage, C16 and later, timber framed, rendered and colourwashed, wattle
and daub with some brick, thatched roof. 3 cells, single storey. Possibly
originally single cell cottage (cell 1) with later additions. Right end
internal stack, off-centre axial stack to left, mid-C19 octagonal shafts,
2 to offcentre stack. Doorways to cells 1 and 3. Late C20 casements with
glazing bars to each cell; part of cell 3 now colourwashed brick. C20
outshut to rear and addition to right return under pantiles. Interior:
collarless rafters to roof; timber studded partition between bays 2 and
3 partly infilled with wattle and daub, boarded door to rear of cell 3 with
pintle hinges. Large C16 stack fireplace and partition wall to cell 1;
central cell narrower, mid-C19 stack attached to rear of first cell stack,
segmental fireplace arch; early C19 cast iron firegrate. Stack to right
gable (cell 3) rendered, probably originally as to cell 1 but cut down and
narrowed in C19.
