House. Circa mid C17 extended in C18, C19 and C20. Steeply pitched pantile
roof with bargeboards to gable ends. Brick axial stack to left of centre.
Plan The original house is the 3-room plan main range with a lobby entrance in
front of the central axial stack which has back-to-back fireplaces heating the
central and left hand rooms. There is a small unheated room at the right hand
end. The single storey one-room-plan extension at the left (south) end is
probably C18 and the outshuts behind the extension and behind the right hand end
are probably C19, the latter having been largely rebuilt in the C20. There is a
C20 single storey outshut at the left south end.
Exterior : 1 storey and attic. Asymmetrical 3-window east front. C20 2-light
casements. 2 gabled half-dormers also with C20 casements. Doorway to left of
centre with C19 panelled door and C20 open timber porch. Single storey
extension at left end with gable-ended pantile roof, 4-light casement at front
and single storey outshut at left end. Right hand (north) end has circa early
C19 attic casement in gable. Rear (west) elevation has 2 small and one large
C20 casements, C20 glazed door to left of centre and single storey outshuts to
left and right.
Interior: Central room has fireplace with unchamfered lintel and blocked oven
and the ceiling is plastered. The right hand end room has former window in rear
wall (now doorway) with mortices in the lintel for diamond mullions. The left
hand room of original house has a chamfered cross-beam with notched run-out
stops and a brick fireplace with chamfered lintel. Over both the fireplaces
there are exposed timber bressummers. In the chambers above the left room there
is a smaller fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel with run-out stops. The
left end room in the south addition has slighter scantling cross-beams. The
winder staircase rising from the lobby entrance and against the axial stack has
a stick balustrade at the top.
The original roof has 3 tiers of staggered butt purlins and a later ridgeboard;
the stack is in a separate bay and appears to replace a timber-framed stack.
