7/16 Mere Cottage (No 57)

GV II

House. C17 and later. Rendered and brick-clad timber frame. Glazed black
pantiles to front, pantiles to rear of roof. 3-cell lobby-entrance type
plan, C17 gabled wing to rear and C20 stair outshut. Brick facade with brick
plinth to left of door. 3 bays, 2 storeys. 16-pane sashes. Central door
of 6 panels, top 4 panels glazed; panelled reveals; pilasters; flat hood.
Rusticated brick pilaster strips running from plinth to eaves either side
of door. Rusticated quoins. Platband only to left of door. Rustication
to windows left of door probably hacked off. Sash over door and right hand
sashes under segmental arch. Central axial stack of 5 clustered shafts.
Left hand gable wall in English bond. Rusticated window surrounds to
ground, first and attic floors. Platbands between floors. 4-light mullion
and transom window to ground floor with ovolo mouldings. C20 windows to
first and attic floors. Stepped gable. Right hand gable wall timber-framed;
entrance door of 6 panels with flat hood on consoles. Interior. Jewel stops
and bar stops to transverse beams. Arch-brace in exposed framing. Roof
with arched wind braces and butt-purlins.
