2/27 The Cottage

Pair of cottages, now one dwelling. C16/C17. Rendered timber frame and
brick. Thatched roof. 3-cell lobby entrance type plan, with lean-tos to
gable ends. 1½ storey facade with irregular fenestration. To left a brick
bay with plank door with hood over, then 2 leaded casements; 3-light leaded
windows with 2 2-light leaded windows over, set low in upper storey; plank
door with hood. 2 eyebrow dormers with Gothic leaded casements. Off-centre
axial stack and right hand external gable end stack, to timber frame gable
wall. Left hand gable wall colour-washed brick. Interior. Some timber
framing exposed. Heavy chamfer with broach stop to transverse beam in
ground floor room. 5-light diamond mullion to rear. Lintel of window set
low in upper floor has mortices for mullions. One set queen posts.
