3/37 Walnut Tree Farmhouse

House. C16 and dated 1613 on bressumer beam of cross-wing. Rendered
timber-frame. Tile roof. C16 2-cell plan with C17 cross-wing. 2 storey
and attic facade with irregular fenestration, re-arranged during
restoration of 1970's. Rendered plinth. Door of 4 raised and fielded
panels with flat hood on consoles. C18 part-leaded 3-light casement to
its right. 2-light leaded casement to first floor with small 2-light
casement to its right over door; tall stair light of 1970's restoration;
2-light mullion under eaves. Gabled bay to right with 4-light casement
with transom to ground and first floors. Dated bressumer beam. 4-light
attic casement. Internal C18/C19 stack to left of door and off-centre
axial stack with 4 lozenge-shaped shafts. Right-hand gable wall has a
5-light mullioned and transomed window with ovolo mouldings to the ground
floor; 5-light casement to first floor. To rear, large 5-light casement
to ground floor of cross wing, with moulded sill of earlier window;
bressumer carved with crosses surrounded by diamonds; 3-light casement
to attic. C20 plank door, 2 C18 3-light windows, one 4-light mullion
probably of 70's restoration to ground floor of main range. One 3-light
casement re-using ovolo moulded mullions, 2 C18 3-light casements, one
5-light diamond mullion. Single storey C18 wing to left hand gable.
Interior. Timber-frame exposed. Cross-wing heavily timbered; ovolo
mouldings to spine beam; chamfered joists; 4-centred arch brick fireplace.
Blackening to timber-fame of gable in C16 range; roof timbers, not
blackened, of C17 type with one row of butt-purlins and upper clasp-
purlins with curved wind braces.
