Parish Church. Fabric C14 and C15 century in origin, but much renewed in
C19. Flint with brick and limestone dressings. Slate roofs to nave and
chancel. West tower, nave, chancel, south porch, chapel on north side of
chancel. Tall square west tower with staged angle buttresses which are carried
up as hexagonal pinnacles terminating in seated figures of evangelists. Bell
openings with 'Y' tracery. Later parapet with flushwork panels. Small cusped
belfry openings on south east and west sides. Stair turret in north east
angle of tower. 3-light west window. Windows in nave and chancel much
restored : 2 3-light with cusped 'Y' tracery. Staged buttresses dividing
bays; string course at nave cill level. Good angle-stoup in south porch.
Priest's door with simple hollow-chamfered surround, south side of chancel.
Wide nave with C19 roof of arch-braced collars and wall-posts. Tower arch
with demi-octagonal pilasters with castellated capitals. Angle buttresses
of tower intrude into nave. Early C17 wall monument, without inscription,
on west wall of tower. Fine C17 monument to Thomas Richardson on south chancel
wall.
