Former rectory and possibly manor house. Early C16 range, extended in C16
and c.1663. Restored in Gothick style c.1830. Built of brick with slate
roofs. Rectangular plan overlaps at north west the 3 structural bay plan
of the earlier house. Porch to east. All of 2 storeys. Single storey lean-
to garden room and greenhouse, linked by garden walls to west. Garden walls
and gateways, enclose west garden. Brick plinths, polygonal buttresses at
external angles, 'cement' string courses at first floor and eaves level and
battlemented parapets. Entrance facade to east of 3 bays with central porch.
4 centred entrance arch with rendered Perpendicular mouldings. C19 achievement
above arch. C19 2-light casement windows at first floor level with 'Y'
tracery, transoms and Tudor arches, on three sides. Apsidal niches inside
entrance to north and south. ½ glazed Gothick entrance door with glazing
bars, arched panels and 'Y' traceried fanlight with Tudor arch. Each side
of porch 3-light casement windows with transoms and hood moulds. At first
floor, windows have glazing bars forming arched heads. Garden facade to south
of 2 bays divided by shallow pier. Bay window at east end, and canted bay
beyond main block at west end, both with battlemented parapets. Western bay
has storey height sash with arched glazing bars. Other windows as east facade.
C19 garden room has battlemented parapet ending in a turret to west. Off
centre French casements with glazing bars and traceried heads central to two
2-light Gothick casement windows. West elevation of 3 asymmetric bays
separated by polygonal buttresses. Earlier hipped roof range with off centre
axial stack with polygonal shafts, projects at north end. Main roof behind
parapets. C19 polygonal chimney stacks. To west, greenhouse against battle-
mented and turreted garden wall. Beyond greenhouse, garden wall has hogs
back coping. Gothick gateway to south, and gateway to north, flanked by piers
with ball finials. Northern section of the wall contains C17 brickwork.
Early C16 roll moulded bridging joist and wave moulded common joists inside
earlier range. C19 Gothick interior detail with overdoors with quatrefoil
frieze, Gothick doors and good joinery details to windows. Geometric stair
with square balusters and swept handrail.
