House. C17 in origin, south parts remodelled early C18. Early C19 additions
and alterations. Red and burnt brick, colourwashed to north. Slate roof.
North block largely early C19. 2 storeys, reduced towards road owing to slope
of ground. Quoins at corners. 2 square sash windows to ground floor and
one rectangular sash to first floor. Remaining upper floor window blocked.
Square door to right. East side with 3 bays of sash windows with glazing
bars. Hipped roof. South block early C18 defined by rebuilt shaped gables.
South elevation of 2 storeys in 3 bays. French window to right with key
blocked semi-circular arch. 2 sashes to left and 3 to first floor with
renewed glazing bars, all under gauged skewback arches with key blocks.
Continuous cast iron balcony at first floor. Moulded brick cornice below
undulating parapet. Interior. Fine range of rooms to south of early C18.
Ground floor west room has fielded panelling, marble chimney piece with
carving in frieze and mirror within shouldered architrave. Above mirror is
voluted broken pediment. Interior doors with pedimented architraves with
carved oak-leaf pulvinated friezes. Plastered ceiling of acanthus foliage
with oval and cornice. Staircase hall with large Venetian windows : fluted
columns and entablature with pulvinated frieze, moulded plaster ceiling with
scallop motifs. Staircase has turned balusters, column newels, inlaid hand-
rail and carved tread ends. Stairs lead directly to first floor drawing room
through doorcase with broken pediment. Drawing room with fielded panelling,
marble chimney piece.
