Entrance porch of principal wing of manor house, now demolished. Base of garden
walls may contain fabric of manor house. Early C16, of diapered brick, with
C19 pantile roof. 2 storeys. Square plan, with garden walls projecting to
east and west. Polygonal angle buttresses to south, with brick string courses
above first floor window level, and decorated terracotta bands, of Tudor roses,
around buttress tops. Blocked brick Perpendicular windows at first floor level
with hollow chamfer mullions, 4 centred arched heads and wave moulded reveals.
Brick hood mould and 4 centred arch in wave moulded brickwork above windows.
Single light windows to east and west. Two light windows, containing terracotta
panels in blocked brickwork and original saddle bars to south. Late C16 south
entrance with quadrant moulded reveals on the inner arch, set within a
rectangular ogee moulded opening with brick pediment above. Porch now has
a lean-to roof, with C19 brick parapet verges and south wall. Inside, niches
with basket arches span east and west walls. 2 blocked niches with triangular
stone heads either side of entrance. C16 moulded oak door frame, possibly
from the demolished manor house. To south, a domed finial of Barnack limestone,
possibly belonging to porch, stands in the grass.
