Description

TG 11 SE HELLESDON MILL LANE
HELLESDON
1/395
5.6.72 Old Stables to Hellesdon House.
- II
Stables and service accommodation, probably incorporating an original wing
of Hellesdon House (q.v.). Early C19. 2 storeys and attic. 3 ranges set
round a cobbled courtyard. Central range has panelled door to right with
plain overlight in a simple doorcase with small hood. 2 first-floor windows
have sashes with glazing bars under cambered brick arches. Box cornice.
2 gabled dormers with casements. Bell cupola. Left wing has similar door in
centre flanked by 16-pane sashes. Double-leaf door to left with raised
and fielded panels has a blocked fanlight with radial glazing bars in a
recessed round-headed gauged brick arch. Low flat-roofed range to right
adjoins the west front of Hellesdon House (q.v.) The left bay of the left
wing abuts an extensive range of stables to the east, which is not of
special architectural interest.
