House, now hospital. 1899-1902 by Charles Dorman for James Manfield,
Northampton shoe manufacturer; became hospital in circa 1923. Dressed
ironstone with Rutland stone dressings. Stone tile roof with moulded
coping stones to shaped gables. Stacks with group of Portland stone
shafts with cornices.

PLAN: Main block containing entrance hall and Stairhall with cross-
wing to right and long service wing to left.
Free Jacobethan style.

EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. Long 3:2:4:1:1:1 bay NW front with
stone cross mullion transom windows with leaded panes. Principal
feature of main range to right is elaborate ashlar 2 storey porch with
pilasters flanking arched doorway with pinnacles and strapwork above,
3-light first floor window with Tuscan colonnade with broken
entablature and shaped gable with pediment and arms; 4 pedimented
dormers; large stone mullion stairhall window and shaped gabled
crossing to right with integral stack and square 2-storey bay with
small corner windows with squat Tuscan columns. Service wing on left
has pair of gables. SE garden front has cross-wings to left and right
with shaped gables and 2-storey bowed bay windows and service wing set
back on right.

INTERIOR: Good interior includes many elaborate features including
panelling, plasterwork, screens, doors and doorcases with overdoors,
chimneypieces, a large inglenook and staircase with arcaded screen and
balustrade and stained glass stair window all in Jacobean style.
