House and Dovecote House
GV II

Cross. Medieval socket and late C19 shaft and steps. Limestone ashlar. Socket
with chamfered corners is set on 2 shallow steps and has a square shaft with
cross finial.Inscription around base of steps: "The preaching of the Cross is to
them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of
God". Re-sited 3 times in C19, moved to present position and shaft and steps
added c.1897 by Viscount Melville. Included for group value.
