10/33 Boathouse Tavern

Public house, probably late C17, altered. Squared stone with cut dressings,
stuccoed and painted; blue slate roof with C20 brick stack. South front 2
storeys, in 2 parts. Taller, open-pedimented 2-bay part on right has rusticated
quoins. Renewed door with overlight, in right bay, in architrave with pulvinated
frieze and segmental pediment. Renewed fenestration in similar architraves
with moulded sills on brackets and triangular pediments enclosing stylised
foliage carving. 4-bay right return shows blocked doorway with raised stone
surround. Interior much altered.

Probably the oldest building in Blyth, and in the C19 attached to a brewery
(now demolished) which lay behind; extensive brick-arched cellars are said to
underlie the whole site.

Lower 6-bay part to left of C17 block is later addition, altered and not of
special interest.
