of Bilton House
Coach house, stable and outbuildings and attached walls. Second quarter of
C19, perhaps incorporating C18 parts. Roughly-squared stone with tooled-and-
margined quoins and dressings; Welsh slate roofs. Ranges on north and east
of rectangular yard.
North range 3 + 2 storeys, 3 bays. Taller coach house on left has boarded
double doors under segmental arch; coped gables; square wooden dovecote on
ridge with two tiers of arched openings and pyramidal cap. External stone
stair (lower section removed) on left return up to 2nd-floor boarded door.
2-bay stable on right has doorway in right bay and irregular fenestration.
One slatted window, other part-boarded, all in old openings with chamfered
alternating-block surrounds and slightly-projecting sills. 3.5-metre high
attached wall with blocked openings set back to left of coach house.
East range single storey, 4 irregular bays. Elevation to yard shows 2 stable
doors and cart entrance with timber lintel at right end; roof hipped to right.
Rear elevation shows 3 boarded doors and 3 windows, all in old chamfered
surrounds; boarded double doors to far left.
Yard wall joins south-west corner of east range to rear wing of house: 2
metres high with gabled coping, and central gateway.
