(West side)

7/158 Old Smithy


Smithy. Probably late C18, altered in C19. Rubble with cut quoins and
dressings; synthetic blue slates on west part and Welsh slates on south part;
old brick stack on stone base. Rough L-plan. Single storey: Left (south)
part shows 2 blacksmith's windows, in chamfered surrounds with slightly-
projecting sills, and blocked opening to left. Iron casting ring set in
adjacent pavement. Similar window in left return and two more to rear.
Slightly-taller right (west) part shows stable door with blacksmith's window
on right; right end gable has C19 coping on earlier reverse-stepped stonework,
and banded stack on older base. Two blacksmith's windows, in unchamfered
surrounds, at rear.
