Description

NU 2406 WARKWORTH BRIDGE STREET
(East side)

21/242 Garden wall
and gates to
Emberside House
GV II

Front garden wall and gates, probably early C19. Squared stone of near-ashlar
quality; wrought iron. Square piers with chamfered plinth and banded domed
caps hold double gates with arched lower rail, downswept top rail and spearhead
bars. Flanking walls 1 metre high with arched coping. At left end a similar
pier and taller section of wall join the outbuilding of No. 8 Bridge Street
(q.v.).

Historical note: this was the front wall of the former garden of Warkworth
House (now Warkworth House Hotel, q.v.).

C20 railings and rebuilt inturned section of wall at right end are not of
special interest.
